heart shaped emeralds

an over theatrical epitome
I lay beneath her branches
one last time

I’ve watched her change
time and time again.
Today, as ever, pushed in her shade
in summery revelations

those branches
to which I give myself
to celestial harmonies
to winds and leaves
(to sometimes rain)
as one amongst the many
heart shaped emeralds
flickering sun in all directions.
Today I was excused –
for the crescendo act
was just for me

a salutation
to the sun and earth’s duet
a burst into crimson yellow blends
a sudden wilt and fall
an offering
a hope for  spring

in heaven-reaching branches
I saw veins in the back of his aged hands
a life too tall
above our heads

we turned away
