Dancing on the Cusp

Lombardo – Smoking Shisha in the Tearoom (1892).

Midday Marrakech –
Over a coffee, I watch a cat
watch everything else.

Here on the cusp,
where dust defies order,
rising through sunbeams
cast overhead.
My mind with the cat’s
lays beneath the currents,
contemplating.
Sacrifice as redemption’
a return to our source.

I see the spirit of resilience in the sunlight
on my coffee cup:

Broken yet dancing.
